South Korea's Clinics Are Drawing Medical Tourists

South Korea is becoming a larger destination for medical tourism. Foreign visitors travel there for many kinds of care, including dermatology, cosmetic procedures, health checks and other treatments. For some travellers, the appointment is only one part of a wider holiday in Seoul.
Government data show that about 1.17 million foreign patients used Korean medical facilities in 2024, a record at the time. Dermatology was the largest field, followed by plastic surgery, internal medicine and medical checkups. In 2025, the government reported a further rise to just over two million foreign patients.
Clinics and tourism businesses are responding with multilingual services, online booking and travel support. But people considering treatment abroad need to think about safety, clear prices, qualified providers and follow-up care after returning home. A popular destination does not make every procedure suitable for every person.
