A United Airlines Boeing 787 jetliner en route from Los Angeles to Shanghai had to make an unexpected return last weekend. The reason? One of the pilots had forgotten to bring their passport. The flight, carrying 257 passengers and 13 crew members, departed LAX at around 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 22.
Approximately two hours into the journey, the plane was redirected to San Francisco, landing at about 5 p.m. local time. United Airlines promptly arranged for a new crew to take over the flight. Passengers were provided with meal vouchers and compensation for the inconvenience.
The rescheduled flight finally took off around 9 p.m., reaching Shanghai about six hours behind the original schedule. This incident not only affected the outbound passengers but also caused a six-hour delay for those waiting to board the return flight from Shanghai to Los Angeles. Many passengers expressed frustration over the disruption to their travel plans and work schedules.
