Brave Man Saves Wife from Polar Bear Attack
In a display of extraordinary courage, a man in Fort Severn, Ontario, Canada, sustained serious injuries while protecting his wife from a polar bear attack. The incident unfolded in the early hours of the morning when the couple ventured out of their home to search for their dogs.
According to the Nishnawbe Aski Police Service (NAPS), the pair were in their driveway when a polar bear unexpectedly lunged at the woman. As she slipped to the ground, her husband, in an act of selfless bravery, leaped onto the animal to thwart its assault. The bear then redirected its aggression towards the man, inflicting serious but non-life-threatening injuries to his arms and legs.
The couple's ordeal came to an end when a neighbor arrived armed with a firearm. The neighbor shot the bear multiple times, causing it to retreat to a nearby wooded area where it succumbed to its injuries. Local authorities later confirmed the bear's death and continued to patrol the area to ensure community safety.
While polar bear sightings are commonplace in this region near Hudson Bay, attacks on humans are relatively rare. Experts attribute such incidents to changing sea ice patterns due to climate change, which may be forcing bears to venture further inland in search of food.
