Taipei Zoo is offering a special summer programme that allows visitors to explore the zoo after dark. For nine consecutive Saturday evenings from July 4 to August 29, 2026, selected areas will remain open until 9 p.m. This marks the 20th anniversary of the zoo's summer evening events.
The programme's theme focuses on discovering how animal behaviour changes between day and night. For the first time, areas like the Temperate Zone and Penguin House are included. Visitors can observe king penguins, African penguins, giant pandas, koalas, and many other species during hours when these buildings are normally closed.
Zoo keepers will give evening talks about various animals, explaining behaviours that visitors rarely notice during daytime visits. Some animals become more active as temperatures fall, while others rely on darkness to hunt or move between habitats. The programme also includes nature films, animal performances, and conservation education activities.
Visiting the zoo in the evening offers a more comfortable experience during Taipei's hot and humid summer months. However, visitors must follow staff instructions and avoid disturbing the animals with noise or flash photography. The night-opening programme provides a unique opportunity to understand how much of animal life usually remains invisible to daytime observers.
