Starbucks, the global coffee chain, has announced significant changes to its corporate structure. The company plans to lay off 1,100 corporate employees worldwide as part of a streamlining effort led by new Chairman and CEO Brian Niccol.
In a letter to employees, Niccol explained that the goal is to operate more efficiently and reduce complexity within the organization. The layoffs will affect corporate support staff but not baristas working in Starbucks stores. Additionally, several hundred open positions will be eliminated.
These changes are part of Niccol's strategy to improve Starbucks' performance. He aims to enhance service times, especially during busy morning hours, and reestablish stores as community gathering places. The company is also reviewing its menu and experimenting with ordering systems to better handle various types of customer orders.
