Sunday, 10 August, 2025143 words2 minutes
A motorist in Germany recently received a hefty fine for driving at an incredibly high speed on the Autobahn. The driver was caught going 199 mph (320 kph) on a section of the A2 highway near Burg, west of Berlin. This speed was more than twice the legal limit for that area.
The consequences for this reckless driving were severe. The speeder was fined 900 euros (about $1,043) and had their driver's license suspended for three months. Additionally, they lost two points on their license. The police used a special radar device called an "Enforcement Trailer" to catch the driver.
Germany's Autobahn is famous worldwide for having sections without speed limits. However, this incident occurred in an area with a set limit of 74.5 mph (120 kph). The case has reignited debates about whether unlimited speeds should continue on parts of the Autobahn.
