Brighton & Hove City Council has reported impressive results from their solar panel initiative. Five leisure centers in the city have collectively generated one million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of renewable energy. This amount is sufficient to power 370 homes or charge 500 electric vehicles for an entire year.
The most productive site was Withdean Leisure Centre, which alone generated over 500,000 kWh of electricity. The remaining energy was produced by solar panels at Moulsecoomb Leisure Centre, Portslade Sports Centre, Prince Regent Sports Complex, and Stanley Deason Leisure Centre.
This renewable energy production serves multiple purposes. It helps reduce the operating costs of these facilities and lowers their carbon emissions, contributing to environmental sustainability. For instance, at the Prince Regent Sports Complex, 97% of the solar energy generated is consumed directly by the facility, significantly reducing its reliance on grid electricity.
