Smart Street Lights with AI Technology

A British technology company called Conflow Power Group has signed an agreement with Nigeria to install 50,000 smart street lights. These solar-powered iLamps are more than just lights - they contain small computers that can perform AI tasks.
Each iLamp has batteries charged by cylindrical solar panels. Inside is a low-powered computer chip that uses only 15 watts of energy. When thousands of these units are networked together, they create a distributed data centre that doesn't need electricity from the power grid.
The iLamps also function as AI-powered surveillance cameras. In Nigeria, they will detect parking violations, speeding vehicles, and seatbelt non-compliance. The state of Katsina will earn revenue from traffic fines, while CPG will rent out the processing power to AI companies.
Experts say these lights work well for small AI applications but cannot replace large data centres needed for training advanced AI models. However, they could serve as useful access points connecting users to more powerful systems.
