Southern Thailand has been hit by a severe rainstorm, described as a 'once in 300 years' event. The heavy rainfall has led to widespread flooding, particularly in the city of Hat Yai, a major center in Songkhla province.
The flooding has had significant impacts on the region. In Hat Yai, floodwaters reached depths of up to 2.5 meters (8.2 feet), submerging roads and houses. The situation has been particularly challenging for Hat Yai Hospital, where power and water supplies have been disrupted.
The hospital is facing a critical situation with 30 newborn babies in the infant ward, whose parents are unable to reach them due to the flooding. Nurses are working in difficult conditions to care for these infants and other patients.
Authorities are working to address the flooding, including efforts to drain the water and provide supplies to affected areas. The flooding has impacted over 127,000 households across nine provinces in southern Thailand.
