Monkey Escape Adventure in South Carolina

10 November, 2024151 words2 minutes

A small town in South Carolina is experiencing an unusual situation. 43 rhesus macaque monkeys have escaped from the Alpha Genesis Primate Research Center in Yemassee. The incident occurred on Wednesday, and as of Friday night, all the monkeys were still at large.

The escaped primates are all young females, weighing between 6 to 7 pounds. They have never been used for testing and are too young to carry diseases. The police and research center staff are working together to recapture the monkeys safely. They are using humane traps called 'Have a Heart' traps to catch the animals.

Residents of the town have been advised to keep their doors and windows closed and to avoid interacting with the monkeys if they see them. The police are using thermal imaging cameras to locate the primates and have asked people not to fly drones in the area as it may disturb the animals.
