India's Tiger Success Story

Sunday, 02 February, 2025138 words2 minutes
India has achieved a remarkable feat in tiger conservation. Over a period of just 12 years, the country has managed to double its tiger population, demonstrating the effectiveness of its conservation strategies.
The success is attributed to several key factors. Firstly, India focused on protecting tigers from poaching and preserving their natural habitats. They also ensured an adequate prey base for the tigers. Additionally, efforts were made to reduce conflicts between humans and wildlife, and to improve the living standards of communities near tiger areas.
As a result, the tiger population grew from an estimated 1,706 in 2010 to around 3,682 in 2022. This means India is now home to approximately 75% of the global tiger population. The increase in tigers has also benefited local communities through increased ecotourism, bringing in more visitors and revenue to these areas.
