India has begun the process of repatriating hundreds of its citizens who fled to Thailand from Myanmar last month. These individuals had been working at a notorious center for online scams known as KK Park.
The first group of about 270 Indians out of a total of 465 left Thailand on an Indian air force transport plane. The remaining people are scheduled to return home next Monday. This repatriation follows a raid by Myanmar's army on the KK Park facility in mid-October, which was part of efforts to suppress cross-border online scams and illegal gambling.
The center in Myawaddy, a border city in Myanmar, was believed to be a major hub for cybercrime operations. After the raid, over 1,500 people from 28 different countries escaped to Thailand, where they were provided temporary shelter and assistance.
