Burger King Tests AI Headsets for Workers

Burger King is testing artificial intelligence-powered headsets that monitor how employees interact with customers. The AI system, called BK Assistant, includes a chat-bot named "Patty" that helps workers with daily tasks.
The system can answer questions about preparing menu items and alert staff when products need restocking. However, it also tracks employee conversations and creates "friendliness scores" based on how workers speak to customers. The AI listens for polite words like "please" and "thank you".
Currently, 500 US restaurants are piloting this technology. Burger King plans to roll it out to all US locations by the end of 2026. The company says the tool is designed to help managers and staff focus more on customer service.
While some see this as helpful technology, others have criticized it online. Many people call it "dystopian" and worry about constant employee surveillance. They also question whether AI can accurately judge human interactions.
