Bob Dylan, a legendary folk-rock singer, saw his draft lyrics for the 1965 hit 'Mr Tambourine Man' sell for an impressive $508,000 at an auction in Nashville, USA. The sale included three typewritten drafts of the song on two yellow sheets of paper, complete with Dylan's handwritten notes in the margins.
The auction featured 60 items belonging to Dylan, including an oil painting he created in 1968 and a Fender Telecaster electric guitar he owned and played. The draft lyrics, while not the final version, offer a glimpse into Dylan's creative process.
Interestingly, music journalist Al Aronowitz provided a first-hand account of Dylan writing the song at his home, likely in March 1964. Aronowitz described finding crumpled drafts in his waste basket, which he then saved. The song went on to become one of Dylan's most famous hits, with a cover version by The Byrds reaching number one in both the US and UK charts.
