Blobfish: From 'Ugliest' to 'Fish of the Year'

The blobfish, once known as the 'world's ugliest animal', has made a remarkable comeback. It was recently crowned Fish of the Year in a New Zealand competition organized by the Mountain to Sea Conservation Trust.
This gelatinous fish, which lives on the sea bed, won the contest with nearly 1,300 votes out of more than 5,500 cast. The competition aims to raise awareness about New Zealand's marine life.
Interestingly, the blobfish's appearance changes dramatically depending on its environment. In its natural deep-sea habitat, where water pressure is high, it looks like a regular fish. However, when brought to the surface, its body deforms into the mushy shape that earned it its infamous reputation.
