In Hungary, a 1,000-year-old library is facing a serious challenge. Small insects called drugstore beetles are damaging many of its old books. This library, located in Pannonhalma Archabbey, is one of Hungary's oldest centers of learning.
The library has about 400,000 books in total. Around 100,000 of these books are at risk from the beetle infestation. To save the books, workers are carefully removing them from the shelves and placing them in special boxes. These boxes will have all the oxygen removed, which should kill the beetles.
This library is very important because it contains many historical treasures. Some books are over 800 years old. The staff is working hard to protect these valuable items. They hope to reopen the library at the start of next year, with all the books safe from the beetles.
