US Plans to Breed Flies to Fight Pest

The US government has a plan to fight a dangerous pest. They will breed billions of flies and release them in Mexico and Texas.

The pest they want to stop is called the screwworm fly. Its larvae eat the flesh of living animals. This can hurt cows, wildlife, and even pets.

To fight this pest, scientists will make male flies that can't have babies. When these flies mate with wild females, no new flies are born. This method has worked well before to get rid of the pest.
