Uganda Begins 42-Day Ebola Countdown After Last Patient Leaves Care

Uganda is counting down 42 days to say its Ebola outbreak is over. The last sick person got better and left the hospital on July 16, 2026. This person tested negative for Ebola two times.
The patient left Mulago Hospital in Kampala. Health workers said this is good news, but the outbreak is not over yet. They will watch carefully for 42 days. If no new sick people appear, Uganda can say the outbreak has ended.
Uganda said the outbreak started on May 15, 2026. By July 16, there were 20 sick people and two people died. Health workers will also watch the nearby country, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, because Ebola is still there.
