Randy Williams created a new country in the California desert. It is called Slowjamastan. He bought 11 acres of land in 2021 for $19,500.
Williams is a radio host. During the pandemic, he could not travel. So he decided to make his own country. He calls himself the Sultan. More than 25,000 people are now citizens of Slowjamastan.
The country has funny laws. Crocs shoes are banned. Reply-all emails are not allowed. The national animal is a raccoon. People can visit the desert land and see the border checkpoint.
