Is Waking Up to Pee Normal?

Many people wake up at night to pee. This is normal for about 1 in 3 adults over 30 years old. It happens more as we get older. Doctors call this 'nocturia'.
Nocturia can happen because our body makes too much pee at night. Or our bladder can't hold as much as before. As we age, our body changes how it makes pee. Our bladder also gets weaker.
Some health problems can cause nocturia too. These include diabetes, heart problems, and sleep issues. Pregnant women may need to pee more at night.
If you wake up more than twice to pee, talk to a doctor. They can help find out why it's happening and how to fix it.
