In Iceland, people did not tip before. But many American tourists visit Iceland now. They want to tip like they do at home. This makes local people unhappy. They think food is already expensive.
In the US, waiters need tips to live. They get very low pay from restaurants. The law says restaurants can pay waiters only $2.13 per hour. Tips are not extra money - they are the main income for waiters.
