Dr Umamaheswari was a scientist in Singapore. Six years ago, she left her job and returned to India. She wanted to be her own boss.
She started silk farming. This means feeding leaves to silkworms and collecting their cocoons. At first, it was very difficult. The silkworms got sick and died. But she used her science knowledge to help them.
Now she produces silk ten times a year. Each batch takes about one month. She earns $1,000 every month. India makes many types of silk. It is the second biggest silk producer in the world after China.
