Chimpanzees and Alcohol: A Natural Taste

Scientists found that chimpanzees eat ripe fruit with alcohol in it. The chimps eat about as much alcohol as in one beer every day. This comes from the fruit they eat in the forest.

The fruit chimps like most has the most alcohol. Scientists think this might be why humans like alcohol too. They say we might have gotten this from our animal family a long time ago.

This study helps us understand why humans and animals like alcohol. It shows that liking alcohol is very old, maybe 30 million years old.
