South Korean police have arrested a YouTuber named Kim Se-ui for spreading false information about famous actor Kim Soo-hyun. Kim Se-ui runs Hover Lab, a YouTube channel with nearly one million subscribers that focuses on celebrity gossip and political commentary.
Police say the YouTuber used artificial intelligence to create fake evidence. He allegedly made a voice recording using AI that sounded like a deceased actress. He also manipulated text message screenshots to make false claims about the actor's personal life. The accusations suggested that Kim Soo-hyun had dated an actress when she was underage, which the actor has always denied.
The scandal seriously damaged Kim Soo-hyun's career and reputation. According to police reports, the actor stopped making public appearances and is receiving psychiatric treatment. His agency released a statement saying that the investigation proved all accusations were unfounded. The court approved the arrest warrant because they worried the YouTuber might destroy evidence or leave the country.
