Your Bad Habits Are Destroying Your Charging Cables

Charging cables fail more often than they should, and the reason might surprise you - it's probably your fault. Michael Pecht runs a laboratory at the University of Maryland where his team tests cables to understand why they break. They have discovered that how you wrap your cables doesn't actually matter.
The real problem is how you treat the connector - the point where the cable meets the plug. "When cables break, it's almost always because it fails where the cable meets the plug," says Kyle Weins from iFixit. This happens because of repeated bending in the same spot. The metal wires inside experience stress, similar to bending a paper clip repeatedly until it snaps.
Common mistakes include pulling the cable instead of the connector when unplugging, using cables that are too short and must be stretched, and placing your phone on top of the cable. The weight and movement create constant pressure on the vulnerable connection point.
Experts recommend investing in braided cables, which use strong textile materials instead of plastic. These provide better protection and last significantly longer than cheap alternatives.
