Wind Farm Debate: Energy vs Wildlife

A large offshore wind farm project in Scotland is causing controversy. The proposed Berwick Bank wind farm would be one of the world's largest, with up to 307 turbines covering an area four times the size of Edinburgh.
While the project aims to generate clean energy for millions of homes, conservation groups are raising concerns about its impact on seabirds. The wind farm's location, about 23 miles from important bird colonies, has led to predictions of thousands of bird deaths over the project's lifetime.
Five conservation charities, including RSPB Scotland, have written to the government asking them to reject the plan. They argue that there are better alternatives, such as floating wind farms further offshore, which would pose less risk to birds. The developer, SSE, claims they have already made changes to minimize risks to seabirds, but the debate continues as the government considers whether to approve the project.
