Two fortunate skydivers recently experienced an extraordinary sight during their parachute descent - a full circular rainbow. This rare phenomenon was captured on video as they jumped from a plane over Nottinghamshire.
Instructor Jan Zackl and his fellow diver were amazed by the unique spectacle. In the footage, Jan can be seen pointing out the complete rainbow and tracing its circular shape with his finger. The pair spent most of their descent admiring this uncommon view.
According to the Met Office, full circle rainbows are typically only visible from high altitudes, such as from aircraft. This is because the center of a rainbow is directly opposite the sun's position in the sky. From the ground, we usually only see the familiar arch shape.
The skydiving company, Skydive Langar, noted that the weather conditions were perfect for observing this rare sight clearly. Staff members emphasized how special and unusual it was to see such a well-defined circular rainbow during a jump.
