Nintendo has announced that pre-orders for its new Switch 2 console in Japan have surpassed their initial expectations. The company received 2.2 million pre-order applications, which is significantly higher than the number of consoles they can deliver on the release date of June 5.
The Switch 2 is the successor to the highly successful Nintendo Switch, which is the third best-selling console in history. Like its predecessor, the new console can be used both as a portable device and connected to a TV screen.
However, the price of the Switch 2 has raised some concerns. In the United States, it will cost $449.99, which is over a third more expensive than the original Switch. In Japan, a domestic version will be available at a lower price of 49,980 yen (about $350).
