New Ladybird Species Discovered in UK

A new species of ladybird has been recorded in the UK for the first time. The Little Arboreal Ladybird, which is yellow with white spots, was found in the New Forest area. These ladybirds normally live in France and continental Europe, but they have crossed the English Channel due to the hot weather this summer.
Professor Russell Wynn, director of Wild New Forest, discovered these ladybirds in moth traps. He explained that the UK Species Inventory will now recognize them as new to Britain. The warm temperatures have made it a good year for many insects, including ladybirds.
The New Forest, with its diverse habitats including ancient woodland and wetlands, provides an excellent environment for these new species. Professor Wynn encourages people to explore the forest and appreciate its biodiversity, which includes an estimated 20,000 species of animals, plants, and fungi.
