Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon and one of the world's wealthiest individuals, has launched a new artificial intelligence start-up called Project Prometheus. This venture marks Bezos' first formal operational role since stepping down as Amazon's CEO in 2021.
Project Prometheus is entering the AI market with an impressive $6.2 billion in initial funding, partly provided by Bezos himself. The company aims to develop AI technologies for engineering and manufacturing in fields such as computers, automobiles, and spacecraft.
Bezos will serve as co-chief executive alongside Vik Bajaj, a former Google X researcher. The company has already hired nearly 100 employees, including experts from leading AI firms like OpenAI and DeepMind.
Project Prometheus joins a growing number of companies focusing on applying AI to physical tasks and scientific discovery. While facing competition from both tech giants and other start-ups, the substantial funding and Bezos' involvement position the company as a significant player in the evolving AI landscape.
