A devastating incident occurred in Brazil's southern state of Santa Catarina on Saturday when a hot-air balloon caught fire and plummeted from the sky. The accident resulted in eight fatalities and left thirteen people injured.
According to the local fire brigade, there were 21 passengers on board, including the pilot. As the fire spread in the balloon's basket, the pilot attempted an emergency landing. Thirteen individuals, including the pilot, managed to escape by jumping from the balloon. However, eight others were unable to exit and tragically lost their lives.
Witnesses reported seeing smoke billowing from the balloon as it fell. The incident has shocked the local community and authorities. The company responsible for the balloon rides, Sobrevoar, has suspended all operations indefinitely while an investigation is underway. Officials expect to release the results of the investigation within 30 days.
