On February 2nd each year, a unique tradition unfolds in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania. Thousands of people gather at Gobbler's Knob to witness Punxsutawney Phil, a famous groundhog, make his annual weather prediction.
The ceremony begins at sunrise when Phil emerges from his tree stump home. According to tradition, if Phil sees his shadow, it means six more weeks of winter. If he doesn't, it indicates an early spring. The Punxsutawney Groundhog Club's members, dressed in top hats, interpret Phil's 'groundhogese' - his winks, purrs, and nods - to announce the forecast.
This year marks the first Groundhog Day celebration at Phil's new 'zoo' at Gobbler's Knob. The event has gained popularity over the years, especially after the 1993 movie 'Groundhog Day'. While it's mainly a fun, lighthearted celebration, the organizers remind everyone not to take it too seriously.
