Fisherman's Incredible Survival at Sea

Maximo Napa Castro, a 61-year-old Peruvian fisherman, embarked on what was supposed to be a two-week fishing trip in December. However, a fierce storm blew his boat off course, leaving him adrift in the Pacific Ocean for an astonishing 95 days.
To survive, Maximo had to rely on his resourcefulness and determination. He caught rainwater in his boat for drinking and ate whatever he could find, including turtles, birds, and even cockroaches. Despite these efforts, he spent his last 15 days without any food at all.
Maximo's family launched a search, but maritime patrols were unable to locate him. It wasn't until an Ecuadorian patrol vessel found him 1,094 km from the coast that his ordeal finally ended. Upon rescue, Maximo was in a critical condition and severely dehydrated. He credits thoughts of his family, including his two-month-old granddaughter, for giving him the strength to endure this harrowing experience.
