Ferrari, the iconic Italian luxury sports car manufacturer, has revealed its first fully electric vehicle called the Luce, priced at $640,000. The name Luce means "light" in Italian, and the car took five years to develop. This marks a significant departure for Ferrari, which previously focused on hybrid vehicles combining petrol and electric power.
The Luce breaks tradition as Ferrari's first five-seater car, designed in collaboration with LoveFrom, an agency founded by former Apple design chief Sir Jony Ive. The vehicle features a Ferrari-made electric motor on each wheel, enabling it to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in approximately 2.5 seconds. All components are manufactured in-house to ensure long-term repairability and protect resale value.
Public reaction to the Luce has been mixed. While some praise it as a "masterclass in design," others criticize it for abandoning Ferrari's classic styling. Ferrari's chief design officer acknowledged the polarizing response but expressed confidence that appreciation will grow over time. Despite launching the Luce, Ferrari will continue producing petrol and hybrid vehicles alongside its electric offering.
