Ferrari's first fully electric car has become one of the most expensive new cars ever sold at auction. A special version of the Ferrari Luce, called "Chassis 0," sold for $40 million during Monterey Car Week in California in August 2026.
This was not an ordinary showroom car. Chassis 0 was the first production model in Ferrari's Luce program and a one-off "Tailor Made" design with special colors, materials, and details. A dedicated plaque marked its unique place in Ferrari's history.
The sale was organized by RM Sotheby's as a charity auction. Ferrari announced that all proceeds would support educational projects through the Ferrari Foundation. The final price far exceeded the auction company's estimate of about $1.1 million and broke the previous record of $26 million set by a Ferrari Daytona SP3 in 2025.
The buyer was not simply purchasing transportation. Chassis 0 represents Ferrari's first electric chapter, and its special design and charity purpose added significant value. This sale demonstrates how luxury brands create unique objects for public events, turning new models into pieces of company history.
