FedEx, a major global transportation and postal company, has filed a lawsuit seeking a full refund of tariffs it paid under President Trump's emergency trade policy.
Last April, Trump introduced higher tariffs on imports from most countries using the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA). However, the US Supreme Court ruled last week that this law did not give him the authority to impose these levies.
The court's decision has opened the door for companies to request refunds on the additional import duties they have paid since the tariffs were introduced. FedEx did not specify the amount it is seeking, but the Trump administration has collected at least $130 billion from these tariffs.
Many other companies, including Revlon, Alcoa, and Costco, have also filed lawsuits to get their money back. While the Supreme Court ruled the tariffs were illegal, it did not provide guidance on how refunds should be processed. Trump and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent have suggested that refund cases could take years to resolve in court.
