Most Popular Baby Names in England and Wales Revealed

The Office for National Statistics has published its yearly report on baby names in England and Wales. The data shows which names were most commonly given to babies born in 2025.
Olivia has remained the top choice for girls for the tenth consecutive year. In 2025, 2,386 baby girls received this name. Lily climbed to second place with 2,249 babies, while Amelia dropped to third with 2,153. The top ten also includes Isla, Florence, Freya, Poppy, Elsie, Ivy and Isabella.
Muhammad continued as the most popular boys' name for the third year running, with 5,957 babies given this name. Different spellings like Mohammed and Mohammad were also common. Noah came second and Leo moved into third place. Other favorites included Luca, Arthur, Oliver, George, Oscar, Theodore and Freddie.
The data revealed interesting trends. New names entered the top 100, including Eliana and Alba for girls, and Carter and Stanley for boys. Ada showed the biggest rise among girls' names, jumping 54 places to 45th. Roman had the largest increase for boys, rising 33 places to 27th. Meanwhile, some traditional names like Ellie and Jessica fell out of the top 100.
