Drone Food Delivery: A New Era

Monday, 08 September, 2025145 words2 minutes
A Norwegian start-up called Aviant is pioneering a new approach to food delivery in Scandinavia's remote islands. They're using drones to bring hot meals to areas that traditional delivery services can't easily reach.
The company has launched a pilot program on Värmdö, an island near Stockholm, Sweden. Despite its proximity to the capital, Värmdö's 46,000 residents have limited options for food delivery. Aviant's drones can now deliver freshly made burgers from the chain Bastard Burgers directly to customers' doors.
The drones can fly for up to 10 minutes and cover a radius of about six miles. Aviant's CEO, Lars Erik Fagernæs, says the service is comparable in cost to car or bike delivery, as it eliminates the need for a human driver. The company plans to expand to more locations across Scandinavia, potentially serving around 100,000 people who currently lack access to food delivery services.
