A remarkable discovery has been made in northern Italy's Stelvio national park. Thousands of dinosaur footprints, dating back 210 million years, have been found on a mountain wall. These footprints, some measuring up to 40 cm in diameter, are believed to belong to prosauropods - plant-eating dinosaurs with long necks and small heads.
The footprints were first spotted by a photographer last September. They stretch for hundreds of meters on a vertical mountain wall that was once a tidal flat during the Triassic period. This area later became part of the Alpine mountain range.
Scientists are thrilled with this discovery. Paleontologist Cristiano Dal Sasso expressed his excitement, saying he never imagined finding such a spectacular site in his home region. The footprints reveal interesting behaviors, such as herds moving together and possibly gathering in circles for defense.
This finding provides valuable insights into the lives of these ancient creatures and highlights how much we still have to learn about our planet's history.
