Beer Trends in Germany

Germany is experiencing a significant change in beer consumption patterns. While overall beer sales have dropped to their lowest level in over three decades, non-alcoholic beer is gaining popularity. In the first half of 2025, beer sales fell by 6.3%, totaling about 3.9 billion liters. This marks the first time sales have dipped below 4 billion liters in a six-month period.
Breweries are adapting to this trend. The Erdinger brewery, for instance, now dedicates a quarter of its production to non-alcoholic beer. They're marketing it as a natural alternative to energy drinks at sporting events. In bars and cafes, there's a noticeable shift towards more health-conscious drinking habits. Many customers are choosing to alternate between alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.
However, traditional beer culture remains strong, especially during festivals. In Bamberg, a town known for its breweries, beer continues to play a central role in local celebrations and daily life.
