The United States has started new taxes on goods from 60 trading partners. The taxes are 10% and 12.5%. They began on July 24, 2026.
The U.S. government said it made this decision after checking trade rules. The taxes do not apply to some things like raw materials, energy, and certain foods.
This new policy replaced an older tax that lasted 150 days. A court said the president could not use an old law to make that tax. Now the government is using a different law from 1974. The changes may affect businesses that buy goods from abroad.
