New surveys show many teens use AI chatbots, but many parents do not know. In one study, 64% of teens said they use chatbots. Only 51% of parents thought their child used AI. Also, four in ten parents said they never talked with their child about AI.
Teens use AI for schoolwork, like looking up information, math, and writing. Some use it for fun, like making pictures. A smaller group use AI for advice or emotional support. Experts say families should talk more. Parents can ask questions and watch for warning signs if AI starts replacing real friends or sleep.
