Nigeria has changed its school language policy. Three years ago, they started teaching young children in their local languages. Now, they have decided to stop this and go back to teaching in English.
The Education Minister, Tunji Alausa, said the local language program did not work well. He looked at test results and found that students in areas using local languages did not do as well.
Some people agree with this change. They think it will help children learn English earlier. Others think the government should have given the program more time to work. They say it takes a long time to see if a new way of teaching is good.
