A group of hackers attacked school websites around the world. The attack hit schools in the United States, Canada, and Australia. About 9,000 schools could not use their learning website called Canvas.
Many students were taking important end-of-year tests. Some students lost their work when the hackers broke into the system. The hackers left a message asking for money. They wanted schools to pay them in bitcoin.
One student, Aubrey Palmer, was writing a long test when the hacker message appeared on her screen. She was very surprised and worried. Her school decided to wait and do the tests later. Many other schools also stopped their tests and waited for the website to work again.
