Scientists want to know: Are we born with our personality? Or do we learn it as we grow up?
For many years, scientists studied twins to find answers. Twins who look exactly the same share all their DNA. Scientists found these twins are often similar, but not the same. About half of personality comes from our genes. The other half comes from our life and experiences.
Today, scientists use new methods to study DNA. They look at millions of people's genes. They found that personality is very complex. Many small parts of our DNA work together. Also, many small life experiences shape who we are. We are not just born one way. We can change throughout our lives.
