A special painting of Mahatma Gandhi was sold in London. The painting was made in 1931 when Gandhi visited the city. It was painted by Clare Leighton, a British artist.
The painting sold for much more money than expected. It was bought for $204,648. This is a lot more than the $70,000 people thought it would sell for. The painting is very rare because Gandhi sat for it himself.
Gandhi was a famous leader who helped India become free from British rule. He taught people about peace and non-violence. Many people in India call him the 'father of the nation'.
