The Tapanuli orangutan is a very rare animal. There are less than 800 of them in the world. Scientists say 58 orangutans died in the storm. This is 7% of all Tapanuli orangutans.
The storm also killed trees and destroyed forests. The orangutans lost their homes and food. Scientists are very worried. They say these orangutans could disappear forever if we don't help them.
