Hugh Broughton is a special architect. He designs buildings in Antarctica, the coldest place on Earth. He has worked on more research stations there than anyone else.
Broughton started this work by chance in 2004. He heard about a competition to design a research station. He went to the meeting and loved the idea. His first big project was Halley VI Research Station. This building can move! It stands on special legs with skis. If the ice cracks, the whole station can be moved to a safe place.
Broughton thinks carefully about the people who live in his buildings. They stay there for many months. He uses bright colors and big windows to help them feel happy. Natural light is very important for mental health in such a dark, cold place.
